What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?


 

"Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a type of 'talking therapy', that combines the use of psychotherapy with hypnosis. Hypnosis or 'trance' is a very natural, relaxing state, encouraged by using guided relaxation, where the mind can relax and then focus on thoughts and suggestions that might be useful. As a modern psychotherapeutic approach,

 

Solution Focused hypnotherapy uses practical, structured, and well-researched strategies to help people make significant, positive changes in their lives in a relatively short period of time. Critically, in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, therapists look at what the client wants to achieve (the solution) rather than at whatever prompted them to seek help (the problem)." (AfSFH)

Hypnosis is a period of accelerated state of learning which can bring relief to unwanted behaviours. We focus on where we are now and where we want to be in the future and the small steps we can take to get there. We will uncover your strengths and learn how to use them. It is not the events in life which create anxiety but the thought processes surrounding those events, for example looking too far into the future or going into the past. You cannot make changes in the future or the past, so it is better to think about the here and now.  Let us build solutions.   

 

What happens in a session? 

I will start each session with a discussion on what's been good. Recalling positive experiences gets you into your pre-frontal cortex, the intellectual part of your brain. I will explain how the brain works and why you feel the way you do. I will then help you to come up with positive solutions and small steps to help you get to where you would like to be. We will then finish with a 25 minute relaxation.
